Frequently Asked Questions

Here you can find some of the most frequently asked questions. Please contact me with any queries or concerns you may have.

Why Choose A Childminder?

Childminders have to be registered with Ofsted. They have to meet a minimum standard, but can achieve a better rating depending on how professional they are. Childminders must provide the necessary, legal documents that are required by law. Childminders must have had an Enhanced CRB check to ensure that they are suitable to look after children.  Childminders must also be fully insured.

The benefits:

They can offer a flexible home based, family setting, personalised to suit your requirements, rather than an institutional environment such as nursery for example. A Childminder's setting is 'Home from Home.'  A child who is cared for by a childminder will do all of those day to day activities that they would normally do as a child with mummy at home...for example going into town and visiting the shops, the Library or feeding the ducks.  These activities put together with structured learning is the best all round care that your child deserves in their growing years.

Because childminders look after small groups of children, they can give the individual attention to your child that they need and deserve, essential for meeting their Early Years Goals.

How Do I Register?

If you would like a place for your child at my home, please make an appointment and I will gladly take the time to explain everything you need to know. You could visit while I am minding children so that you can see for yourself what we get up to! You can make an appointment by phone or by using our contact form. I look forward to meeting you and your child!

What happens if my child is ill?

It's unavoidable that small children catch all kinds of minor infections. For a speedy recovery and to prevent the other children from falling ill, children who are unwell must stay at home. Only when the fever has subsided for a whole day should you return your child to my care. If the disease is infectious, I would like a doctor's note confirming that your child is no longer contagious.

If a child falls ill whilst in my care the parents will be notified for immediate collection.  As we all know, a child needs Mummy or Daddy when they aren't feeling well.

Fees & Payment

Fees:  £4.15 per child per hour.  This includes Before & After school care and also care during the School Holidays.

Half fees are required to retain your child's place while it is not being used.

I accept cash, cheque, bacs payment, PayPal  & childcare vouchers

Childcare Vouchers: Paying for your childcare with 'Childcare Vouchers' is easy.  The Government allows working parents to exchange part of their salary for childcare vouchers;  saving the tax and National Insurance they would normally have to pay.

Childcare vouchers are becoming the preferred way of paying for childcare. Currently, with the maximum entitlement of £55.00 in vouchers per week or £243.00 per month, if you are a basic rate taxpayer you will save £962.00 per year and higher rate taxpayers will save £1195.00 per year.

Both working parents are eligible to receive Childcare Vouchers. If you and your partner are both working, jointly you could save upto £2390.00 per year.

These figures are for guidance only and can vary depending on your circumstances.

What Are Policies & Procedures?

Ofsted like childminders to have 'Policies & Procedures', which outline a plan of action when faced with a given situation. These can vary from childminder to childminder, but if you would like to see my policies and procedures then please arrange a visit. I am more than happy to go through them with you, and reassure you of any concerns that you may have. There are over 25 policies, procedures and permission forms that I have within my setting, some of these are:

Child Protection.

No Smoking Policy.

Equal Opprtunities.

Accidents & Emergencies

Parents & Carers as Partners

Outings

Risk Assessments:  All Care settings must 'Risk Assess' their practice and any outings that they may go on.  These documents must be available for all parents viewing.  Please ask to see my 'Risk Assessments.'

Are You Insured?

Public Liability Insurance -
My public liability insurance is recommended by PACEY and is by Royal & Sun Alliance. I comply with all the requirements laid down by the insurance company. A copy of my certificate is in my entrance hallway to view at any time.

Car Insurance

My car is fully insured for business use in relation to childminding. The children always travel in age/weight appropriate car seats and I always ensure my breakdown cover is valid.
